IHRSA, the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association, is the fitness industry’s global trade association, representing nearly 10,000 fitness facilities and over 700 supplier companies in 78 countries. Its Club Business International (CBI) journal annually examines the youth fitness industry.
In a previous study of youth fitness, IHRSA reported that the youth market was the second fastest growing segment in the fitness industry, behind only the aging baby boomer market in pace of growth, and that it more than doubled in the decade ending 2005. In its current report, IHRSA said "Today, driven by greater awareness about children’s health and increased concerns about the lack of it – particularly given epidemic childhood obesity – the trend is accelerating."
Of the recognition by IHRSA, Camhi said, "It is very gratifying for Jyl and me, after putting in years of work to bring a new vision for youth physical development to market, to get this kind of recognition from the preeminent organization in the fitness industry."
CBI had similarly profiled FitLinxx (Camhi's previous start-up) nearly a decade ago in its early stages, and Camhi considers that endorsement to have been extremely valuable in FitLinxx's rapid growth. FitLinxx reached #20 on the national Deliotte and Touche Fast 500 growth companies ranking. "This is very well timed for Great Play, just as we are beginning to open the system up to potential franchisees."
